A Good Budget Is More Than a Number

A construction budget should not simply be a number printed on a piece of paper.

It should represent a plan.

The more decisions we make early, the more accurate that plan becomes.

For me, helping a homeowner stay within budget is not about telling them that nothing unexpected will ever happen.

It is about using experience to anticipate where those risks are, controlling the costs that can be controlled and being transparent about the areas where uncertainty still exists.

That is one of the biggest advantages of spending more time planning before construction begins.

When building a custom home, homeowners are constantly presented with upgrades.

Some of them are absolutely worth the additional investment. Others make sense only when they solve a particular problem.

Tankless water heaters are a good example.

I’m not against tankless water heaters. In the right application, they can be a great choice. But I also don't believe every new home needs one simply because tankless is viewed as the more modern or premium option.
